Cross-Country meet at Ashbridges Bay, Thursday, Oct 8, 2015 – route maps

Here are the details about the upcoming TDSB South District Cross-Country Meet. Permission forms will go home with your child tomorrow, with more detailed information.  Please return them to Beth or the office as soon as possible, so we can ensure your child is registered for the race.

When: Thursday, October 8, 2014

Where: Ashbridge’s Bay Park (where Coxwell meets the Lakeshore)

Time:  See list below for approximate race times.

Our first set of runners will leave the school at 9:15 by school bus. We will shuttle our students back and forth by school bus, so they are not waiting unreasonably long times at the course after running. Grade 7 & 8 students will travel home by TTC.

IMPORTANT POINTS for Race Day

  • The race will proceed, rain or shine.
  • Students should come to school at the regular start time of 8:45 am.

WHAT CAN YOU DO TO HELP YOUR CHILD PREPARE?

Ensure your child runs the required distance as often as possible, keeping a steady pace.

How far do they run?  Grades 1 & 2: 1 km; Grade 3: 1.5 km c; Grades 4-6:  2 km; Gr 7 & 8: 3 km.

What kind of course is it? A lot of the course is run on sand. Students require adequate stamina to complete it.

*Adults are not permitted to run (or ride) beside the athletes during the race (athletes subject to disqualification).

If you can, make a trip to Ashbridges’ Bay, or any other sand beach, and have your child practice running on sand. It is a very different feel than grass or track pavement!
